Rangitoto College’s vision is to maximise their students’ potential by providing optimal facilities and infrastructure including the Auditorium that is used for the college’s assemblies, productions and award ceremonies. It became apparent that the current sound system was not projecting sound efficiently and Halogen Audio was hired to updated the sound system.
RANGITOTO COLLEGE’s vision is to maximise their students’ potential by providing optimal facilities and infrastructure to be able to provide a world class education. Every two years the school review its priorities and outline major future developments in school buildings, infrastructure and resources. Every five years the College produce an updated property plan to ensure that all present facilities and resources are maintained to meet current and short term needs. Therefore, Rangitoto College has some of the best facilities in the Southern Hemisphere including its auditorium.
Rangitoto College’s auditorium seats over 1500 and is not only used for the college’s assemblies, productions and award ceremonies, but also hired out for shows, functions and events. The design of the auditorium meant that sound was not projected efficiently by the outdated sound system and at the beginning of the school year, 2013, Halogen Audio started work on Rangitoto College’s auditorium. It was decided to complete this huge sound project in a stage process to keep costs down.
Auditorium Stage 1:
This stage commenced in 2013, and involved upgrading the front of house of the outdated sound system. Halogen Audio installed pole mounts straight into the stage for the top boxes to be fixed to and concealed subwoofers under the stage to be out of the way. Multiple inputs were installed around the stage area and front of house mixing console were all hardwired into the BLU-100 signal processor. All inputs around the stage are designed to be used instantly through a state of the art touch screen system which was also installed by Halogen Audio. Now teachers and staff can use the auditorium for any event at a moment’s notice. Even the wireless microphones were installed and programmed to be used via the touch screen. As easy as pick up a mic, hit the button on the screen and talk!

2 x QSC K12 speakers
2 x QSC KW181 subwoofers
1 x BSS BLU-100 signal processor

Auditorium stage 2:
This stage commenced in January 2014 and involved installing speakers on the catwalk, which is 12m up. These speakers provide fill in sound for the mezzanine seating. A backlit rack, for the amplifiers to run the speakers, was installed and the touch screen installed in stage one was reprogrammed to include the new speakers from stage two.

Auditorium Stage 3:
Stage Three which was to follow in 2015 has been postponed until possibly 2016 due to budget restraints. This will involve installing speakers underneath the mezzanine floor for further fill in sound
Auditorium stage 4:
Over the Christmas holidays 2014, Halogen Audio installed a Q-Sys system into Rangitoto’s Auditorium to run everything.
In addition to the Q-Sys system, Halogen Audio also installed a brand new Video system. This involved replacing the existing main projector with a more powerful and brighter main projector, two satellite projectors one on each side of the stage to view from the mezzanine floor, and two LCD display panels beneath the mezzanine floor as fill in. This configuration means that there is at least one full screen view-able from any audience area within the Auditorium.
